Omaha Healthy Start’s goal is to lower the number of infant deaths that occur each year in Metropolitan Omaha – with special attention on lowering the number of infant deaths that occur among African-American families.

The following programs and services are offered:

  • Community outreach and enrollment
  • One-on-one social work case management
  • Nursing assessments and support
  • Referrals for health and social service needs
  • Education and training classes
  • Transportation
  • Responsible male involvement program
  • Incentive programs

OHS HealthNET Program: 

Social Work Case Management

The Omaha Healthy Start (OHS) HealthNET program social work case managers help women/mothers find the support services that they need to improve the health and well-being of their families.  Social work case managers assist parents with:

  • Locating medical and dental care for the entire family
  • Receiving mental health support
  • Addressing housing
  • Seeking employment and job readiness skills
  • Completing education goals
  • Improving financial management skills
  • Assessing emergency services

Nurse Case Management

Omaha Healthy Start nurse case managers work
one-on-one with women/mothers to assess their health care needs before, during and after pregnancy.  Health services include:

  • Education and training on all stages of pregnancy
  • Adult, infant and toddler health assessments and screenings
  • Support in identifying a medical home
  • Pregnancy, HIV and STD testing and counseling
  • Women’s health
